Greetings fellow AME Police Emergency Unit Members,
The past month we’ve been very busy dealing with several issues involving our members we would like to share with you just a few things that we can all do to avoid disciplinary charges and steps that need to be taken to protect our members.
Answer Phones with proper greeting. Ask the where, who, what, when, and how to all callers.
Be sure to handle each call completely before going on to your next call.
Use all available units advise Road Sgts. of any Priority 2s that are holding and stamp accordingly
Follow the 30 Minute Rule advise complainants of delay and inquire on unit status timely and stamp all CC's accordingly. Non-compliance will be viewed through the “prism of events at the time of the incident”. Therefore be sure to advise your immediate supervisors if for any reason you are unable comply with this procedure due to call volume. Document for your notes date and time of supervisors being advised.
Listen on transfers to fire department only as long as needed (Management is listening)
Be courteous to all callers
Be on time to work
Be timely coming back from breaks, if you are working through a break be sure to advise supervisor immediately that you missed your scheduled break and arrange to take one. Please document any instances of not getting a break due to call volume or staffing issues and notify your shop stewards.
If you are required work through a meal due to call volume or staffing or special projects required by a supervisor be sure to fill out an overtime form for missed meal, please advise shop stewards of any instances where a supervisor refuses to sign off on a missed meal voucher.
Document all situations that you think may be a problem later.
Report all equipment malfunctions from radios, phones and chair problems to computer issues, immediately to supervisors and document for your own notes.
Your Unit Board strongly recommends that we all perform our jobs EXACTLY as all Department R&Ps and training bulletins dictate in order to avoid any discipline.
If you are out self sick and you turn in a Doctors note please have supervisor sign and date and give you back a copy for your records and keep in a safe place, if you would like to file a copy with me incase of future needs please let me know, all personal matters of course will be kept strictly confidential. Remember you are entitled to ten (10) family sick days a year.
If you feel you have been unjustly passed over for overtime please notify your supervisor and complete a 10-42 with the date and reason you feel you have been incorrectly passed over.
***Anti microbial wipes are available to our members and are currently at the PSD II Desk please be sure to be extra vigilant in the cleaning of your work station to prevent spread of germs the WHO has raised the pandemic threat level to 6 which is the highest level. Since we are all aware we basically work in a petri dish of germs to begin with it is imperative that our members be sure to take measures to protect their health.
As we enter the summer months with call volumes going up and staffing going down it is important for us all to remember we are only human we can only handle one phone call, one radio transmission at at time. It is important that we continue to do our jobs as we have always done in a courteous and professional manner, and please don't get stressed over the increased workload.
Please remember that we will be bargaining on our new contract over the course of the next several months. If you have any suggestions please make them in writing to any shop steward. Also, if you think you have a grievance please contact a Union Board member immediately do not wait we will help you fill out the form and turn it in.
