Good News and Bad regarding layoffs.

Suffolk County Layoff List as of 11/22/2011

As you are all well aware the AME convention was the past few days, among the proposals was a $2 dues increase, after much discussion and debate the AME delegate body came to the realization that a $2.00 increase would be insufficient to carry AME through the next year. In light of the recent desertification attempts, lawsuits and the prospect of our members being laid off the Delegate body voted to increase dues $4.00 from the current $18.00 biweekly to $22.00 for 2012 and $2.00 additional to $24.00 biweekly in 2013. While the AME delegates understand that this raise comes at a very difficult time for all of us, the overwhelming consensus was that in order to face the prospect of layoffs and upcoming health insurance and contract negotiations we must be prepared to fight to protect those jobs and our benefits.

For those of you that think that layoffs don't affect our unit I would like to point out that 16 members of Police Civilian are on the current layoff list, at least one of those is a former PSD that may in fact have bump and retreat rights to return as a PSD, which could in fact mean that one of our current members could be laid off.
